I finally decided
I love tidy spaces… but I don’t always love the process of actually tidying them.
I’ve spent way too many mornings telling myself “I’ll do it later” or “I have no idea what to do with all this stuff.”
My desk was the perfect example: a colorful chaos of
post-it notes with “don't forget me!” ideas,
scraps of paper with notes from the latest church service,
three (or four?) different notebooks full of important things I swore I’d review… yet somehow never seem to get around to.
Add in my favorite chapstick, a couple of lip glosses, a matchbox car from my grandson, and the sweet little gifts from friends that make me smile every time I see them—and you get the picture.
I felt loved, yes… but also a little overwhelmed every single time I sat down to work. Sound familiar to anyone?
After months of repeating the same excuses (“I just don’t know how to organize this better”), I finally made a different choice. I decided.
One quick trip to Target later, I came home with a beautiful spiral notebook that I’ve turned into my 2026 command center. I sectioned it out for the notes and ideas that matter most right now. I gathered my many post-its and put them in the front pages—so I can actually see them instead of drowning in a sea of neon squares. The rest of the random notebooks? They’re neatly stored away. I know exactly where they are if I need them, but they’re no longer crowding my everyday space.
The shift surprised me.
I feel lighter when I sit down at my desk.
I actually look forward to starting work instead of bracing myself.
And honestly? I’m proud of myself for deciding—imperfectly, quickly, but decisively.
I’m practicing the muscle of choosing action over endless deliberation, not because everything has to be perfect, but because calm surroundings are medicine for my nervous system and my brain.
So I’m curious…
What’s one small space in your world that, if you tidied or simplified it this week, might give your mind a little breathing room—or your soul a deeper sense of peace?
No pressure for a magazine-worthy transformation. Just one kind decision for yourself.
